20241 hr 27 min

In partnership with Princeton Public Library and Labyrinth Books for Banned Books Week this screening of THE LIBRARIANS highlights the ongoing surge in the number of challenges to books in libraries, bookstores, and schools. Banned Books Week highlights the value of free and open access to information and brings together the entire book community to support the freedom to seek and to express ideas.

This screening will include a round of Banned Books trivia. The film will be introduced by Janie Hermann of Princeton Public Library and Alyssa Kopyani of Labyrinth Books.

In this new documentary from Oscar-Nominated Documentarian Kim A. Snyder, Librarians unite to combat book banning and to defend First Amendment Rights amid unprecedented censorship in Texas, Florida, and beyond.

In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.
